What is "freezing fat"?
Cryolipolysis (freezing = ice cold; fat = fat; lysis = dissolution) is a non-invasive technique that freezes fat cells to provide a smoother body contour. Frozen lipolysis is also called low-temperature lipolysis, fat freezing and commonly known as fat freezing.
How does fat cryo abdomen treatment work?
Fat freezing involves the application of a cooling paddle-like device to suck the stomach like a vacuum and cool the fat cells to a temperature around -9°C to trigger cell death. Since fat is more sensitive to temperature than skin and other body cell types, fat cells freeze before skin cells. This non-invasive alternative to liposuction is suitable for gentle but permanent fat sculpting ("reduction of bumps"). Only fat cells are sensitive to low temperature, so neighboring tissues are not affected. After freezing lipolysis, dead fat cells are broken down and excreted from the body.
Does abdominal fat cryo treat pain?
Cryolipolysis treatment of abdominal fat is not painful; most recipients experience mild and temporary discomfort (pressure, warmth, and cold). In fact, some people will nap during the operation!
